Making Memories with Writing

Making Memories

Students enjoy writing about things they know - especially themselves! This month, our focus is on personal narratives, which can enhance writing instruction, build style and voice, and increase student engagement. This fun “autobiography in chapters” assignment can be used at every grade level over and over throughout the year. Each “chapter” of the autobiography focuses on a different feeling and small moment. By the end of the school year, students will have written an entire autobiography that they can take home for their families to enjoy. They (and you) can also see the progression of their writing skills archived in one student publication. This autobiography assignment is a great way to teach conventions along with style, organization, and content. Feel free to customize the suggested FCAs to fit your personal narrative needs and use the in-text linked documents for ideas!
