About Dr. Barbara Tischler Hastie
Dr. Barbara Tischler Hastie is an enthusiastic educational leader, consultant, and adjunct professor with more than 25 years of experience in K–12 education, instructional leadership, and special education. She currently serves as a consultant, partnering with school districts to design inclusive educational systems, strengthen instructional practices, and improve equitable access for all learners. She works closely with leadership teams to support systemic change and growth. Throughout her career, she has led regional and statewide initiatives in MTSS, Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), culturally responsive and sustaining education, restorative and behavioral supports, and school improvement planning across multiple districts in New York State.
Dr. Hastie previously served as Supervisor of Instructional Services at Ulster BOCES, where she supervised instructional specialists, coordinated grant-funded initiatives, and supported eight component districts in curriculum development, professional learning, and systems improvement. She has also held leadership roles as a Special Education Coordinator, School Improvement Specialist, and Interim Principal/Assistant Superintendent Consultant. In higher education, she teaches graduate courses in educational law, instructional supervision, and special education leadership at Mercy University and previously at SUNY New Paltz, helping prepare future school leaders for effective and equitable practice.
Dr. Hastie earned her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Russell Sage College and holds permanent New York State certifications as a School District Administrator, School Administrator & Supervisor, and Special Education Teacher. Dr. Hastie is especially passionate about inclusive education, leadership development, equity-centered instructional systems, and creating meaningful professional learning experiences that improve outcomes for students and educators alike. She is also a national presenter for Learning Forward and has co-authored regional professional development initiatives aligned with NYSED priorities.
